RARE AMERICAN GLASS AND SOUTHERN MATERIAL TO HIGHLIGHT JSE & ASSOCIATES NOVEMBER AMERICANA AUCTION
Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates is pleased to announce its 35th Semi-Annual Americana and Fine Antiques Auction to be held November 8-10, 2018. The three-day event features the Alvina Breckel Collection of 19th-century American glass and lighting, property from an important Virginia private collection, and material deaccessioned by several institutions, including the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA). Consisting of a diverse range of rare and desirable material, the large sale promises to be a noteworthy event.
Session I, beginning at 1:00 pm EST on Thursday, November 8, 2018, and Session II, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Friday, November 9, 2018, will be devoted exclusively to the important 19th-century American glass and lighting collection of the late Alvina Breckel of Oley, Pennsylvania and Winnetka, Illinois. One of the finest assemblages of cup plates, lacy period salts, and children’s articles to ever appear on the auction block, the Breckel Collection will serve as a touchstone for the current market. The firm will produce a special full-color printed catalogue for both Session I and Session II.
Session III, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Saturday, November 10, 2018, will include the firm’s usual fine selection of rare Virginia & other Southern material; 18th & 19th century formal and country furniture; American fine & decorative arts; folk pottery; 19th century coin silver; Shenandoah Valley and other folk art; a fine selection of late 18th /early 19th century English ceramic figures, many ex-collection of C. B. Kidd; Shenandoah Valley long rifles; early quilts and other textiles; Native American material; &c. Highlights in the Saturday session include a recently discovered pair of folk art watercolor and ink portraits of North Carolina sitters by the Guilford Limner; an important Wythe Co., Virginia paint-decorated poplar blanket chest, signed and dated; a fine Great Road decorated earthenware jar, likely Cain pottery; and a William Aiken Walker oil on board genre scene in excellent original condition; among others.

The sale is on public preview November 7, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; and November 8-10, 8:00 am until end of auction on each day.
