Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates is pleased to announce its 34th Semi-Annual Americana and Fine Antiques Auction to be held June 22 & 23, 2018. The two-day event features a fine selection of historical flags, banners, and other political textiles from a private collection; a special selection of over 100 antiquarian maps and prints deaccessioned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation with proceeds to benefit the Collections and Acquisitions Funds, many examples from the William C. Wooldridge collection, published in Mapping Virginia: From the Age of Exploration to the Civil War; as well as private collections in Canada and across the United States. Consisting of a diverse range of rare and desirable material, the large sale promises to be a noteworthy event.

Session I, beginning at 1:00 pm EST on Friday, June 22, 2018, will feature the extensive library of the late Ivor Noel Hume (1927-2017), distinguished scholar, author, and former director of the Department of Archaeological Research at Colonial Williamsburg. With volumes ranging from the 17th to 21st centuries, this assemblage represents one of the finest archaeological research libraries in private hands. At 12:30 pm, just prior to the auction, ceramics scholar, archaeologist, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA), and editor of Ceramics in America, Robert Hunter will be presenting a tribute to Ivor Noel Hume.

Session II, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Saturday, June 23, 2018, will include our usual fine selection of rare Virginia & other Southern material; 18th & 19th century formal and country furniture; American fine & decorative arts; folk pottery; 19th century coin silver; Shenandoah Valley and other folk art; 18th & 19th century ceramics; antiquarian maps and manuscripts; &c. Highlights in the Saturday session include a highly important Abolitionist flag banner with a Rochester, NY history; a fine Henry Clay 1844 Presidential campaign flag banner in excellent condition; a 17-star hand-sewn U. S. national flag with War of 1812 history; an outstanding Stirewalt family, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, paint-decorated yellow pine diminutive box; a fine Rococo Revival carved rosewood marble-top center table attributed to Joseph Meeks & Sons in New York; an Aaron Willard mahogany tall-case clock, dial dated “1793”; and a David Edward Cronin oil on canvas Civil War scene, depicting a Union raid on Confederate forces at Charles City County Courthouse in Virginia; among others.
