UNIDENTIFIED LINEN PLAIN-WEAVE HAND / SHOW TOWELS, LOT OF TWO, red cotton on linen, comprising a long two-paneled example with various motifs including "IHS" with a cross, flowers, plants, animals, two figures of a woman holding a cross and a man wear a crown or hat appearing to be smoking a pipe, and a pair of stag deer, lower end with "IESVS MARA IO / SEBH I 788", bottom edge with fringe; and an example featuring two eight-point stars above a row of motifs including two peacocks and hearts, below signed "CATHARINA KRAL 1823", lower end with three floral motifs and having unfinished edge, signed along one edge "Anna [C Byers?]" in ink. Each housed under acrylic in modern frames.

Condition: Very good visual condition with some light toning/discoloration and stains, some fading to thread, small losses to thread, frames with some wear and other imperfections. Not examined out of frames.

Circa : Late 18th/first quarter 19th century.
