STAUNTON MILITARY ACADEMY (SMA), VIRGINIA SILVER-PLATED AND WOOD PRESENTATION LOVING CUP, cylindrical-form well with Art Nouveau openwork design featuring lilies and lily pads over wood, having three applied D-form handles, plaque to one side with engraving of "Presented to / Thomas H Beardsworth / by Staunton / Military Cadet Band / June 2 - 1910." Interior base marked "ST. LOUIS SILVER Co / QUADRUPLE / PAT / PENDING".

Condition : Fair to good overall condition with wear, surface scratches, scattered dents, nicks, cracks to wood with some being sizable.

Circa : Early 20th century.

Catalog Note : Catalogue Note: Major Thomas H. Beardsworth was born on December 22, 1874 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England to parents William Henry Beardsworth (1852-1901) and Susannah Mary Driver (1848-1920). The family immigrated to America in 1887 and eventually moved to Buena Vista, Virginia. Thomas married Julia Ada Bantz (1877-1963) in Winchester, VA on August 20th, 1902, and they later settled in Staunton. He served on the music faculties at Staunton Military Academy as well as Mary Baldwin Seminary and the Virginia School for Deaf and Blind. He was also the former director of the Stonewall Brigade Band. He died from a stroke in 1936 and is buried at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton along with his wife and other family members.
