AMERICAN / BRITISH SILK-EMBROIDERED BIBLICAL PICTURE, silk, chenille, pencil, and paint on silk, finely executed depiction of Abraham sacrificing Isaac from Genesis chapter 22, verses 1-24, figures having painted and drawn faces and limbs, featuring a bound Isaac laying on top wood and an alter, Moses places one hand on his son and holds a knife in the other, looking up to the angel above them in the painted sky, the foreground featuring a stack of logs and a censer-type vessel with burning contents, the left-hand side shows a ram behind bushes, the right-hand side with two servant figures and a donkey in the distance. Housed under glass in a gilt-molded frame with eglomise mat.

Condition: Very good visual condition with toning and spotting to silk ground, two small holes in the sky, thread with light fading and fugitive color, possibly one or a few breaks, frame with wear and other imperfections including flakes and chips to molding, later coating, and in-painting, eglomise mat with flakes, chips, and abrasions. Not examined out of frame.

Circa : First quarter 19th century.
