Private Treaty Sales
Private Treaty Sales are sometimes recommended as the most favorable way to market a particular select item. While the competitive setting of a public auction is usually the best marketing venue, on rare occasions we may suggest a private treaty sale as a more viable option.
The opportunity for a sale by private treaty normally arises when an object is best suited for a specific museum or institution, or for an unusually motivated collector. Additionally, a seller’s personal circumstance may necessitate a quick sale or the judiciousness of a private sale.
Our expert knowledge of objects within our specialty fields and close contacts with top institutions, collectors and dealers in those fields, provides us the unique ability to match a select object with an appropriate buyer. We have executed private treaty sales for the Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Tthe Museum of American Glass in West Virginia, the Augusta County, VA Historical Society, as well as various private collections.
Private treaty sales are always handled with total confidentiality and transparency.
Commission charges vary depending on the value of the object and the complexity of the sale.
