Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates is pleased to announce the important single-owner collection of Albert “Al” and William “Billy” Steidel of Alexandria, VA. To be offered over two days, the Steidel Collection will feature an outstanding selection of American folk pottery, including the finest and most extensive collection of Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC salt-glazed stoneware ever assembled, highlighted by an important 10-gallon stamped “H. Smith & Co.” profusely decorated stoneware jar, attributed to enslaved African-American potter, David Jarbour; a fine selection of bottles and jars, including whiskies and sodas, highlighted by a large group of rare Alexandria and Washington, DC examples; country store and advertising, including signs; ephemera of all types; Civil War and other historical material, including cased images; rare Virginia silver; Native American objects, including rugs and beadwork; hooked rugs and folk art, including several Grenfell examples; and a selection of toys, doorstops, and other collectibles.

Featuring property from the collection of Allan Gurst, Delray Beach, FL; the estate of Charlie Casper, Pittsboro, NC; the collection of the late Al and Billy Steidel, Alexandria, VA; the estate of Larry Derrer, Harrisonburg, VA; and the collection of John and Val Tull, York, PA; as well as institutional deaccessions from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; Old Salem Museum and Gardens; the Thomas Jefferson Foundation; the Mount Vernon Ladies Association; the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Winchester, VA; and the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA.; plus others. The auction offerings over two days will consist of firearms and accessories; country and formal furniture, including painted examples and food/pie safes; stoneware and earthenware; country store and advertising; a large collection of figural ceramic humidors; beer steins; toys and related material, including cast-iron banks and doorstops; early iron and other domestic accessories; a large selection of dolls, including many early examples; textiles, including quilts, samplers, and needlework; photography, including a collection of vintage cameras by Graflex and other makers; Civil War and other historical material; books, manuscripts, and other ephemera, including a large selection of postcards.
